New Mural ‘A Phalanx of Angels’ Honors Iconic Vegas Statue | KSNV, News 3 Las Vegas

The iconic Blue Angel statue, that used to tower above its namesake motel on Fremont Street, has been honored by a new mural at the 705 building, located not far from the Neon Museum on Las Vegas Boulevard north of Bonanza Road.

The statue was removed from its familiar perch at the now-defunct hotel in 2017, and was part of a limited exhibit at the Neon Museum’s Ne10 studio last year. The statue was meant to be restored and placed back on its original post, but it has not yet been placed back.

The original 16-foot-tall statue was designed by Betty Willis, who also created the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign.
